Isla Hinck is an American writer, producer, editor and video personality. She joined GameTrailers in 2010 as Lead Video Editor, and later hosted the comedy news show Mandatory Update with Elyse Willems. Isla remained with GT until its closure in 2016.

Isla publicly came out as a trans woman and a lesbian in May 2021 on Twitter and Easy Update, specified her pronouns as she/they, and revealed her new name.[1] She also answered questions from Patreon in a follow up AMA episode.[2]

In 2022, Isla and Daniel Bloodworth were made the new co-heads of Easy Allies following Brandon Jones retiring from EZA and games journalism.

Easy Allies History[]

Isla is a self described music nerd, which is reflected in the many songs she makes for Easy Update. She is particularly into synths, and infuses those sounds into most of her songs.

The monthly improv show Fiasconauts originally started as an Easy Update episode on September 10, 2016. A Tabletop Escapades Presents episode was featured on September 21 and it officially became its own show on October 28, 2016. Headed up by Isla Hinck, each episode features zany improv scenarios based on the tabletop game Fiasco.

Isla is also a big film buff, which prompted the creation of the monthly movie podcast, Reaction Shots hosted by Isla and Michael Huber. Each month, they study various film trends, genres, and themes with special guests being regularly featured to discuss that month's topic. The podcast first premiered on April 14, 2017.

Shortly after moving into The Studio, Easy Allies premiered their RPG trivia game show, Mysterious Monsters on March 19, 2019. Hosted by Michael Huber, contestants have to fight monsters in an RPG-like battle screen, answer trivia questions in a variety of topics, and compete against each other to win the most gold by the end of the final round. The game show is designed by Isla and programmed by developer Jason Wishnov from Iridium Studios.

As part of the Phase 4 Announcements, a new show titled The Occasional Board Game Show was announced. Created by Isla, the show features fellow Allies and friends occasionally playing board games together. The show was unveiled on August 13, 2019 and premiered on October 2, 2019.

Isla posted a Patreon announcement[3] on February 10, 2021 that Fiasconauts was moving off the monthly rotation and shifting to a more occasional special event release schedule. In its place on the monthly schedule was the re-introduction of the Easy Update segment, The Fast & Loose Internet Talk Show as its own standalone Patreon exclusive series.

The new Patreon-exclusive monthly series Trash Babies was first announced on March 22, 2021 during EZX Digital '21. Hosted by Isla, the series features the Allies playing a game submitted by $15 and up Patrons that has an average Metacritic score of 60 or below. At the end of each episode, the Allies have to decide on whether to Trash It or Treasure It. The show officially premiered on July 19, 2021.

In early March 2022, Easy Allies announced EZX 2022, their six-year anniversary weeklong celebration and the third annual EZX event. Among the announcements was that Brandon Jones was retiring from Easy Allies and games journalism.[4] Bloodworth and Isla were announced as the new co-heads of Easy Allies to help steer the ship and create a more solidified structure to navigate the business a little quicker.
